The sixteenth volume of the Márai diary presents another four years of the writer's life and thoughts. Once again, an intellect interested in everything manifests itself in the pages: the book reader, the writer who watches and criticizes the Pasolini film, observes and comments on the joyful news and wildlife of the world around him. Regarding its topic, the encyclopedic nature of the volume also follows from this. Of course, we can also gain an initiation into the work diary of his own works (Earth, Earth! ..., The Dolphin has looked back) and these are also well illustrated: Márai's Salerno years (despite the recurring, constant basic theme of aging) are among the most vibrant. At the same time, this volume is also a diary of the dying of a civilization: On New Year’s Eve, television broadcast a dance-gagging show, and this production, writhing, twitching, shrinking, and reminiscent of animal barking, perfectly expressed the standard to which a civilization sank. But what can an artist who adheres to traditions, lives and creates according to the agenda do?
